11/2/2022 0 Comments Elyon gameplay![]() Character Customisation.ĮLYON has one of the better character creators in the market. The fact that a live service game by a major developer and publisher had this issue 3 months after release is disappointing. I have never experienced this issue in any other game. While free-to-play games need to monetise certain aspects of gameplay, limiting the amount of content a player can consume each day is a terrible way to make money and grow your game, espcially when there are so many games with better monetisation models out there that reward players for supporting them, rather than punishing those who are financially unable to.Įlyon’s audio cut out no less than three times within one hour, including twice losing all music + sound effects during a battle and once entirely mute for around 10 minutes. ![]() ![]() Unfortunately, within an hour while the juice did indeed hit the eye, as I was forced to grind limited daily quests to continue the story, a task made all the more difficult by the developers’ insistence on limiting almost every aspect of the game behind tokens and tickets, with players only being allowed to complete so many quests per day before buying addition tickets or waiting for a reset. Levelling in Elyon is a mess, and while early levels are usually quick in most MMORPGs, gaining two levels from a single mob or five levels from a mini-boss doesn’t make the content feel more rewarding rather, it makes me feel like I am being sold a lemon, and the juice just hasn’t hit me in the eye yet. With so many better and more advanced combat systems making their way into modern releases, I wish the developers had done more than copying their homework (TERA) and provided players with a rewarding and meaningful combat system that made the generic content more enjoyable. While combat in Eylon is pretty good, it’s not any better than the combat system found in Tera, which, being ahead of its time in 2011, is rather generic and uninspiring in 2022. While Elyon is doing better in Korea than in the West, it is doing poorly compared to other popular Korean MMORPGs. Unfortunately for Elyon, despite launching to healthy numbers and generally positive feedback, it rapidly fell from grace as Korean players began to experience the limitations of the engine, frustration of design, and most importantly, its borderline predatory monetisation model, which encourages users to spend more than they can afford if they wish to remain competitive. The one saving grace for most eastern MMORPGs that find their way into the western market is that they often enjoy substantial support at home. However, what has surprised many is that despite years of innovation and technological advancement, Elyon is somehow worse than Tera in every meaningful way, with the 11-year-old niche MMORPG (Tera) managing to attract a slightly larger audience than its spiritual successor on Steam alone, not including its standalone launcher communities which are much larger due to its age, and having launched onto Steam relatively late in life. ![]() TERA.įor anyone who has followed the genre for a while, it is common knowledge that Elyon was created by the developer behind Tera, an oversexed fantasy MMORPG that has had its day and should be put out to pasture. Tera was sunset, so Eylon could live, and now Eylon looks set to die anyway, not that losing Tera was any great loss. ![]()
